Parcel, courier and fulfilment: what it is and what it pays

What it actually is

High drop counts to houses and lockers rather than to loading bays. Scanning, doorstep problems, cards through letterboxes and a route that is planned for you by software rather than by a person.

What you need to hold

Van or 7.5 tonne mostly. Patience and a good memory for a postcode.

What it does to the money

Often paid per drop or per route rather than per hour. Work out what that comes to on a bad day, not a good one, and check whether the day ends when the parcels do.

How the work runs

The question that decides whether you stay in the job, and the one most adverts never answer.

Tramping, nights out Home every night Trunking Multi drop Store and retail delivery Shunting and yard work Night work Four on four off and fixed rotas Agency and ad hoc shifts

More who the work is for
