3PL and contract logistics: what it is and what it pays

What it actually is

You work for a logistics company, on a contract it runs for somebody else, often in that customer's uniform and out of that customer's site. The lorry may carry the customer's name rather than your employer's.

What you need to hold

Whatever the contract needs. The work is usually steady and the site is the same every day.

What it does to the money

Rates are set by the contract rather than the spot market, so they move less in both directions. Good for somebody who wants the same shift every week.

How the work runs

The question that decides whether you stay in the job, and the one most adverts never answer.

Tramping, nights out Home every night Trunking Multi drop Store and retail delivery Shunting and yard work Night work Four on four off and fixed rotas Agency and ad hoc shifts
