Walking floor: what it is and what it pays

What it actually is

A trailer whose floor slats crawl the load out of the back, so it unloads without tipping. Waste, biomass, recycling, wood chip.

What you need to hold

Operator training on the system. No extra licence category.

What it does to the money

A modest uplift, and safer than tipping because nothing goes in the air, which is why waste contracts moved to it.

How the work runs

The question that decides whether you stay in the job, and the one most adverts never answer.

Tramping, nights out Home every night Trunking Multi drop Store and retail delivery Shunting and yard work Night work Four on four off and fixed rotas Agency and ad hoc shifts

More what is on the back

Curtainsider Fridge, temperature controlled, reefer Flatbed and step frame Fuel tanker Food tanker ADR tanker and dangerous goods Bulk tipper and bulker Skip lorry Hook loader and RoRo Refuse and bin wagon Tipper, construction HIAB and lorry loader
