Jobs on the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands

The Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey are British Crown Dependencies, not part of the United Kingdom. Each has its own parliament, laws, taxes and company register, and its own rules on who may work there, which can apply to people moving from England, Scotland or Wales too. So their jobs live here, in their own section, and every advert carries the island's rules.

Isle of Man

The Isle of Man has its own work permit system. Depending on who you are and the job, you may need a work permit before you start, and this can apply to people moving from England, Scotland or Wales as well as from abroad. Check with the Isle of Man Government before you accept.

Jersey

Jersey controls who may work there under its own housing and work law. Newcomers usually start with a registration card and can only work for businesses allowed to employ newcomers, and this applies to British citizens moving from the UK too. Check with the Government of Jersey before you accept.

Guernsey (Bailiwick of Guernsey)

Guernsey uses employment permits for people who are not established residents, and this can apply to British citizens moving from the UK. Alderney and Sark have their own arrangements. Check with the States of Guernsey before you accept.

If you are looking for work

  • Having the right to work in the UK does not, on its own, let you work on an island.
  • Ask the employer in writing whether you need a permit or registration, and who applies for it.
  • Check the island government's own pages before you move or sign anything.
  • Never pay anybody for a permit or a job offer.

If you are hiring on an island

  • A business registered on an island chooses its island register under Company details; we check it by hand on that register.
  • A UK company hiring for its island branch advertises as usual: the location puts the advert in this section.
  • Every other rule is the same: your own company email and website, no fees to candidates, no links or phone numbers in the text.
