Advertising a job on the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey: how it works on HIRING UK
3 minute read · Updated 2026-10-12
The Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey are Crown Dependencies, not part of the United Kingdom (the short explanation). HIRING UK carries their jobs in their own section, clearly marked, so nobody applies thinking the job is in the UK with UK rules.
1. If your business is registered on an island
- Open your account from your company's own email address and confirm it, as every business does. Free mailboxes (gmail and the like) cannot pass.
- Under Company details, choose your island register (Isle of Man Companies Registry, Jersey JFSC registry or Guernsey Registry), add your company number, the exact registered name and your website on the same domain as your email.
- The island registers do not offer the free automatic link Companies House does, so we check yours by hand on the island's public register, usually within two working days. The other steps (email, website, domain) are checked by the system as usual.
2. If you are a UK company hiring for an island branch
Advertise as usual from your verified account. Put the island in the location (for example "Douglas, Isle of Man" or "St Helier, Jersey", or the island postcode). The advert is placed in the island section automatically and carries that island's rules.
3. What every island advert shows candidates
- That the job is on the island and the island is not part of the UK.
- The island's rules on who may work there, in plain English, and a link to the island government's own pages.
- That the right to work in the UK does not on its own give the right to work on the island, and that nobody should ever pay for a permit or an offer.
4. Your part
- Say in the advert whether you help with a permit or registration, and whether accommodation is available: on the islands, both decide whether a candidate can take the job at all.
- Every other rule is the same as for any advert here: the pay shown, no fees to candidates, no email addresses, phone numbers or links in the text.
General information, checked in October 2026. The islands change their rules from time to time; your own island's employment and population offices are the authority.
