Class 1 driver, experienced

You hold C+E, you have been driving a few years, and your problem is that your CV reads like a list of companies.

A transport manager reads the top six lines and decides. Everything that gets you the call is in those six lines: categories, CPC, digi card, and what you have actually driven. Put them first and nothing else has to work as hard.

  General haulage, mixed day and night work, tramping two nights a week.
  Loaded and secured own trailers, mostly palletised and steel.

Select it, copy it, and rewrite it as yours. It is laid out plainly on purpose: a plain CV survives being opened on somebody else's computer, and a clever one does not.

What you must change

  • Every date and every company. Do not leave a single one of mine.
  • The licence line. If you do not hold ADR, take that line out rather than leaving it blank: a blank line reads as a gap.
  • “No preventable incidents” only if it is true. If you have had one, leave the line off. Do not write the opposite.
  • The right to work line. Settled status, pre settled, British, a visa: write what is actually yours, or leave the line out and answer when asked.

The other examples

Class 1 or Class 2, newly qualified

You have just passed and every advert wants two years' experience. This is the hardest CV to write and almost nobody writes about it.

Warehouse and forklift

You have tickets and shift experience, and your CV is being read in thirty seconds alongside forty others.

Know somebody who needs this? Sending it costs nothing and it is how a small board grows.
