5 questions before you turn a wheel

5 questions before you turn a wheel: Is today's height in the cab, in feet and inches? Is my card in and my walkaround written down? Is the load secure? Do I know the low bridges on my route? If I hit a bridge, who do I ring first?
  1. Is today's height in the cab, in feet and inches?
Loaded, with today's trailer and fifth wheel. Over 3 metres, it must be displayed.
  2. Is my card in and my walkaround written down?
Card in before you move, a manual entry for the check, defects written down, NIL if none.
  3. Is the load secure?
Straps, chains, curtains and doors. A load that moves is a load that kills.
  4. Do I know the low bridges on my route?
Plan it with the height in, and trust the sign on the road over any map.
  5. If I hit a bridge, who do I ring first?
The railway: the number on the bridge plate, or Network Rail 03457 11 41 41. Then 999. Then your employer.
